The history of the flower clock
The Flower Clock of Viña del Mar, one of the most emblematic icons of the city, has a history dating back to 1962. It was created on the occasion of the Football World Cup held in Chile that year, and was installed on the slope of Cerro Castillo, at the entrance to the city, to beautify the area and welcome tourists.
The clock is a work of engineering and gardening, with a Swiss mechanism that guarantees its precision and wrought-iron hands that mark the time on a dial adorned with flowers. These flowers, which are constantly renewed, form the numerals and decorate the entire watch, giving it its characteristic colourful appearance.
Over the years, the Flower Clock has become a symbol of Viña del Mar, attracting visitors from all over the world who seek to be photographed next to this natural work of art and enjoy its timeless beauty.
